Render distance is fubar (PS5) Ever since the update that was rolled out a few hours back the render distance has been abysmal, you can maybe render dinos about 50 feet in front of you, it's making high level Dino taming almost impossible. As long as the host is on xbox series x with the s/x upgraded version of ark then yes, there is no tether (outside of water and caves, those will still pull tether) Cant remember if ps5 is the same. Speaking from a PC standpoint when you make the server you can increase the tether (on the server creation menu) to whatever your computer can handle. I would assume there is a similar feature for Xbox unless it literally can't handle more than the default. Its called Host boundary. It has a limit of 178 meters.

The only fix I have found is to uninstall and reinstall which is a total pain in the @$$. Getting tired of it and curious if anyone has an easier fix or if I should just abandon the game until they have a finished product in a few months or so. ... Just hope your PC can handle loading in all those extra dinos your friend(s) are loading in when outside the vanilla tether distance, otherwise everyone is going to lag to hell and back again. that fixes one of his problems he will still have trouble going in caves and certain biomes in the map + water make your pets have 3000% movemeant speed.

I also used DDU before installing the new driver. Played for 4 hours, no crashes. Ultra settings everything on including frame generation. Flew all aver the map, cave runs etc. Below is the tutorial.
