Posted December 13, 2016 (edited) 1. I wouldn't use mixed brass with the Sierra 69 grain SMK because you will have "mixed" accuracy. I use mixed brass for blasting ammo at 50 yards. 2. I would use Hornady's date. In my rifle I found 47 gr of CFE 223 and a 168 gr bullet to be too stout. Even popped a primer. I was using Hodgden's data and figured it would be good considering it was only .4 gr off their starting load. Same here, Hodgden data was/is hot for me in 308 & 223 for a lot of loads.Try CFE223, load mag length, I think I started at 25gr and worked up. Also 22.0 Benchmark and 77 SMK or 69 SMK come in a close 2nd. Will try loads with Blc(2) this weekend. Sorry I dont have anything shorter with enough twist for 77 SMK.

The biggest advantage to using CFE in 223/5.56 loads is essentially it's made to fill the case entirely leaving just enough room to set the bullet without going over pressure.
