2024 L5P RATTLE / TICK AT IDLE. Hello All, I'm new here and this is my first post. I took the new truck to the dealer for tick noise at idle. Many post regarding DEF Injector tick which I'm familiar with (3rd Duramax) and type writer tick (3 Ford diesels too). The tech's heard it too and were under the truck, and couldn't immediately figure it out.

The L5p was a very small exhaust side configuration, small up pipes, small exhaust turbo vanes, etc. So I am guessing the ECM was seeing some very high EGT’s and cut power to keep from melting pistons. The connector is starting to go bad, and it's right now, an intermittent failure. Heat and vibration will kill it sooner than later. Replacement connector kit is available from AcDelco. Mileage improved a little and I have never reset my 2nd mileage meter which reads 16.2 mpg for the average life of the truck with say 55% city and 35% highway and 10% towing. No true, a number of tuners have tunes available for the L5P. If you want to delete then the two I know are motor ops and PPEI. As far as hard parts, WCfab carries everything and is the leader currently. If you want to delete then you need their downpipe and EGR "fix". P100b appears to be turbo actuator issues. P2002 could have been related to the plugged up map sensor. Air ratio off if its plugged up. Might go away if map sensor replaced. Hadn't seen more than a few post on PCV reroute for the L5P so I thought I'd share mine. Earlier gen hose required 5/8" hose it seems while the L5P uses 7/8" id. I chose not to use the stock short section as the hose I used is very good quality and retains its form.

The L5P is flat out a better built motor! Go do your research! The L5P has new heads on it that flow much better and a new fuel injection system but the main engine is mainly the same. Main and oil cooling were increased to deal with the extra power. It is a great engine, most Duramax are but it is let down by choking emissions and warranty issues.

The truck has 73k miles on it, deleted since about 65k miles. In the past few weeks, it developed a notable vibration that will shake the entire cab of the truck between 1200-1800 rpm, regardless of whether driving, sitting still, in park, in neutral. So, I’m not thinking it is transmission or driveline related, and is something with the engine.
