It's hard for me to believe the owner's manual for my VTX 1800 C says first oil change not required till 4,000 miles or 12 months. Any opinions on this? I've already got 1,900 miles on it. Engine knock. outlaw1800 is right about the fuel issue, use regular with these VTX's. As for this "knock", I too have a bit of a chatter going on in my engine. I have 14,400 miles on my bike so far and at 12,000 I switched back (from using Amsoil products) to the Honda recomended OEM engine & final drive oil.

They simply classify the 20W-50 for V-twin because the Harley V-twins don't have radiators. As it says optimized for hot-running, air cooled engines... your X has the ability to keep itself much cooler than an air-cooled ...

The owners manual for the 1300C suggests replacing coolant at 24K. I took the advice of other members on this board and downloaded the service manual. You might consider that as well. Don't let removing the tank worry you. Go to Bareass Choppers Tech pages for step-by-step instructions.
