This swap was extremely easy because it so happened that the 107 used the same front subframe as the W114/115 which came with an OM 617, so the engine literally bolted in. I am not familiar with the OM617 numbers, but if it is a turbo, you would need to change the rear end ratio (higher=lower numerically) to get anything close to 30 MPG.

If all you want is fuel economy, swap in a 2.3L with a 5sp and some high gears, youll get more MPG then the diesel and be a helluva lot cheaper and eaiser. If you want power a V8 is your best option.

Use a small amount of silicone sealant (or anaerobic sealant) on the new water pump gasket. Be careful not to overtighten the fan clutch bolts and I recommend you pup some blue LokTite on the threads before assembly. For the water pump bolts, coat the bolt threads sparingly with neverseize grease. Like.
