A true West German Sig will always have proof marks and a date code. Starting in late 95 is when you starting seeing double serial # marked. Typically the frame and slide. In 1992 Sig started making the P229's in the US. Most P229's with serial starting with AB, AC, AD will be triple match.

I have an somewhat “older” P229/.40/DAK with short extractor/legacy slide. Serial # AAUxxxxx. This is the only other AAU serial number ive found “HSP” designates Homeland Security Production guns, from reading looks like sig made 1000 p229’s and 1000 p226’s for homeland security some years back. Had an American flag on top of the slide.
