Nurses must understand this potential impact of previous trauma and incorporate patient-centered, trauma-informed care. Trauma-informed care is an approach that uses a lens of trauma to understand the range of cognitive, emotional, physical, and behavioral symptoms seen when individuals enter health care systems.
