John deere 4020 problems.
Hello all, Have a problem with my 4020. This past summer - if the tractor sat for more than 2-3 days...it wouldnt start. At the time - was a 24v system. 1st thing I did was replace the battery's - 2 brand new JD 12v's. Seemed to help for awhile - but not long and was back to not starting if sat for more than a few days.
Several questions for those who have installed &/or who are running turbo chargers on their 4020 diesels: 1/ Comp. ratio - Anyone running a turbo with aftermarket "high compression" pistons? (ex. Reliance's 17.65:1 pistons) 2/ Boost - What numbers are you seeing? What turbo are you running?The back and forth could also be over driving the tractor. It takes a steady hand and very little steering on the HWY. Without seeing it first hand it's hard to tell if you have a problem or it's the above. It's very easy to overdrive a 4020 on the road. It occasinaly cycles to the left about 1/4 turn without moving the steering wheel and needs ...Mar 28, 2024. #3. More likely a dirt problem rather than a mechanical problem. Suggest you clean the suction screen, replace the filter and change the hydraulic oil. Idle the tractor for a few minutes and check the hydraulic operations. I had a couple broke off of my 4020 and I used JB weld on them. Make sure the surfaces are clean and I roughed them up with some really coarse sandpaper so that the JB weld had something to bite. I have had them on for 6 months and so far so good. C.
Clean the elbow. Apply Loctite to the threads of the R39075 seat and install the check valve assembly into the elbow. Then reinstall the elbow on the tractor. The original service info says the parts are: R39075 seat, D2361R ball, R39078 spring, and R39076 guide. When I bought the parts, the seat number delivered was R68553.

Feb 14, 2021. #1. Directly behind the oil pressure gauge is a small hole in the governor housing. Oil will go through that hole and run down a trough to the oil tube. Remove the oil pressure gauge and take a small stiff piece of wire and you can unclog the hole. I had the same issue with a 37 A. It takes some. patience but it can be done. Re: 4020 NOISY hydraulics in reply to buckeye al, 05-24-2002 14:33:20. SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE SURGEING OIL MAKING THE PRESSURE CONTROL VALVE MOVE BACK AND FORTH. YOU PROBABLY HAVE A PISTON HANGING UP OR A LEAKING INTAKE OR EX-VALVE IN THE PUMP. A PRESSURE GAUGE WILL SHOW THIS SURGE.
