The WD-series (late WD and all WD-45's) got the constant mesh/helical gear transmission at chassis s/n 127007 and up. The early WD's basically had a spur gear/sliding gear transmission nearly identical to the WC tractor. The newer transmission was to tolerate more torque and power and was quieter running.

The leak could be from the rear oil pan seal- as Jim in Michigan says- or it could be the rear main seal, on the crankshaft, leaking into the clutch assembly, and then down onto the floor.
Even todays 10W-30 will have far more film strength than the straight 30 of sixty years ago. I'm with Doug on this. I use the same 15-40 diesel oil in my 190xt, d17 IV gas and my d14. Also have been using it on lawn mowers pressure washers etc as well.Jan 22, 2013. #1. There is supposed to be the drain plug for that part of the tractor at the bottom of the PTO gear box, so yeah there is oil right behind that plate. The fill holes are located inside the frame on left hand, carb side, of the tractor.
