I put a pressure gauge on the rail and when you turn the key on it shows 55 psi on the gauge. I realize that's a little low but I would think its enough to at least start.

Turn the key to the "On" position for a few seconds while the fuel pump runs (can hear it in some GM vehicles- I haven't noticed it in the Malibu) to let it build up pressure, then over the Start. See if that changes anything.
