John Deere 214 no spark continues. New wiring harness, ignition switch, coil,condenser, points, solenoid and spark plug. Tractor was in a brief flash fire and put out with water, melted hood off and melted battery. After I put new items on that i stated, spark plug sparked a few times and actually almost started engine.
Aug 27, 2005 · Great resource. I have an '86 JD 318. It is the "old style" Onan. I changed out the choke cable the other evening and after finishing, tried to start it. The choke works fine, but it acted like there was no spark. I bought a spark tester, the kind that allows you to hook it up to the plug wire and ground the other end. John Deere 318 Spark issue B43G. I have a 1985 318 that doesn’t have spark when cranking but when I let the key go it shows spark briefly. I have adjusted the points, installed new ignition coil and condenser. Not sure what to check next.
It is popping and is backfiring through the carb. I bought some starter spray, and same condition - cranks and backfiring through carb seems to be more. Went to check spark plugs. Turned gas switch off at the left hand side tank selector. Took right side plug out, plugged it back and and put end on a ground, cranked, it sparked.May 28, 2022 · Ok so I have an Onan in my 318 a P218 (I think no markings) that is not getting spark. I have an Onan P220G in a John Deere 318, with no spark. It has been starting hard, misses for a while when blade engaged (initial under load). Compression in each cylinder is 120lbs. Just bought new plugs. There is 12V on + side of coil. (-) side of coil oscillates between 0V and 12V as it should.

It looks like your jumper to 12 volts is done correctly -- so if the other terminal of the coil is getting switched up and down it should provide spark.
