Nov 16, 2009. Los Angeles California. I had a Yamaha Pulsar bass, it was made likely in the late 70s. It was a Fender copy before they really made a variation of there own designs, even had the Fender headstock shape. It was a killer bass, I would rate it quality wise right up there with Japan Fenders of the 80's.

The finish flakes off for no apparant reason and the end pin is so poor it feels like the thing is mounted on a swivel. He has been told that to get this thing in decent shape would require $6-700 minimum.

Brands I've used are Silvertone, Danelectro, Kay, Hofner, Fender, Squier, Epiphone, Harmony, SX, Ibanez, Krappy, Gretsch, Rogue, Eastwood and Dan Armstrong/Ampeg. I think I remembered them all. Fender Vintera II 70s Telecaster Bass MN VWT. Only issue I see is the tort guards look cheap, but that is easily replaced. Initial thoughts: super comfy and slick neck, strange since it's fixed and the (very cool) uniform color flows across the whole instrument- thus the neck is painted and paint-smooth accordingly. Tone is absolutely incredible- a whole new tonal category different from the P-J-Stingray array ...The original, pre-upgrade Highway One Model had an acrylic lacquer finish. When Fender introduced the upgrade model in 2005, they changed to nitrocellulose lacquer. As a side note, I owned both a 2005 pre-upgrade bass (sold for financial reasons) and currently own a 2006 post-upgrade bass.

It is awesome! Nothing against the Traynor SB110. It did me proud for over a year but the Ampeg has a much fuller sound.
